Accessing Printers
Instructions for a Windows System.
There are several ways to set up a printer initially in Windows but the following may be one of the most straightforward.
(1) Click on Start
(2) Click on Run
(3) Type in: \\PCOUNTER2.physics.ox.ac.uk\
(for the Sharp printers)
( or \\PRINTSERVER.physics.ox.ac.uk\ for other printers. )
(
or
\\PRINTSERVERX64.physics.ox.ac.uk\ for other printers if your desktop is a 64-bit system. )
If you are not logged in to the Physics network domain or your system is not a member of the Physics domain you will be asked for your Physics network system authentication details ( e.g. Username: physics\username Password: yourpassword )
You will then see a list of printers available via the printserver server.
(4) Double-click on each of the printers you want to be able to access.
You may now use the printer(s).
If your system is a member of the Physics network domain and you are logged in with your Physics network account that is all you have to do.
If your system is not a member of the Physics Windows domain you will have to perform steps (1)-(3) after every system restart.
If you do not login with your Physics network account you will have to perform steps (1)-(3) every time you login.
PPNT183 is an alternative print server if there are problems with PRINTSERVER.
