Astrophysics in the LaboratoryMy research concentrates on the design and analysis of experiments fielded on high-power lasers and pulsed-power machines. These experiments produce, in miniature and for a very short time, extreme plasma conditions similar to those found in a variety of exotic astrophysical objects, ranging from planetary interiors through conditions found at the centre of the Sun and more highly-evolved stars, to white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes. Although based at Imperial College, London where I am the Head of the Plasma Physics Group, my visiting position at Oxford allows me to undertake research in collaboration with members of the Oxford High Power Laser Group, led by Professor Wark, as well as with other members of the Physics Department. |
