Beecroft Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology

The Beecroft Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (BIPAC) at Oxford University is located within the Denys Wilkinson Building situated on Keble Road. It houses 24 researchers. The Institute was opened in May 2004. The BIPAC was made possible by a generous benefaction from Adrian Beecroft. The BIPAC director is Oxford University Savilian Professor Joseph Silk.

The BIPAC was established in response to a major expansion in the field of theoretical cosmology and particle astrophysics. Recent appointments, expansions in postdoctoral research in the field at Oxford, and the huge growth in the amount of data being provided by the new generation of telescope and cosmic microwave background experiments have created a need for a new institute to underpin future growth in this discipline.
