CUWiP 2018, Oxford, UK

Please ask your department Chair or course administrator about the possibility of funding your travel to and from the conference. While we do have a small amount of travel funding available, this is very limited.

CUWiP 2018 will take place at the Department of Physics, with accommodation in the beautiful Keble College a short walk away from the conference venue. Parking is difficult in Oxford city centre, but Oxford is well-connected by bus and rail. Walking routes from the train station and bus station to Keble College are shown on the map.

By Rail

Regular train services run from London, Birmingham, Manchester and Reading, among others. Oxford train station is about a mile (or a 20-minute walk) from both the Clarendon Laboratory and Keble College. The city line 2A bus service runs from the station to the Department of Physics from Monday to Saturday. The stop is on Banbury Road at the intersection with Keble Road (opposite the Denys Wilkinson Building).

By Coach

There are two coach services that operate from London to Oxford: one leaves from Victoria Coach Station every 15 minutes on weekdays (Oxford X90); the other from Grovesnor Gardens by Victoria Railway Station, runs every 10 minutes at peak times and operates a 24/7 service (Oxford Tube). There is also a coach service from Cambridge (X5 via Milton Keynes), and frequent coaches from Heathrow, Gatwick and Birmingham airports (Oxford Airline), in addition to many national coach services.

All coach services come into the Oxford bus station, at Gloucester Green. Gloucester Green is about a 15-minute walk from the Department of Physics and Keble College.

By Car

The M40 motorway runs very close to Oxford on the north-east side and links with the M1, M4, M5 and M25. If you approach Oxford from the east on the M40 you should leave at junction 8, or from the north at junction 9. Those travelling on the M4 should get off at junction 13, Newbury, and take the A34 north to Oxford.

Parking is difficult in Oxford city centre. There is some on-street parking available on Keble Road, which is controlled by a pay-and-display scheme with a maximum stay of two hours. However, Oxford is well served by 5 park-and-ride sites on the outskirts of the city with quick bus services to the city centre. The police advise against leaving cars at these sites overnight.
