About us
The workshop is located in the Clarendon lab. We mainly service the
Atomic
& Laser Physics and the Condensed Matter, but it is facility for the whole
Department of Physics.
A sample of machinery is available here
Examples of work
Laser Physics
The workshop makes a wide range of items for the Laser Physics research groups that are located within the Clarendon workshop. These are often custom designs, to meet high specifications that are not commercially obtainable, such as the cooling system shown below. Components are also made by the workshop if they can be made at much lower cost that off the shelf products. The Optical mounts are manufactured and then fitted with commercial heads. This can significantly reduce the cost of research projects and the order lag time. This can help projects easily adapt at short notice and allow greater flexibility
High Stability Microscope
The Bio-Nano Technology research group required a ultra high stability microscope which was not commercially available. The workshop built the microscope structure to fit on a optical table with tilting mounts and removable slide assembly for ease of use to the given requirements.

Condensed Matter
The magnet assembly is designed to be used in conjunction with the pulsed field facility in the Nicolas Kurti laboratory.
