Laptop Battery Recall

It has recently been found that the batteries in certain laptops (in rare circumstances) can catch fine. For safety reasons, a number of leading manufacturers are now recalling and replacing batteries for some of their models.
If you own or use any of the models listed below you MUST take further action. If you have received replacement or additional batteries from these manufacturers you must likewise take action. - See instructions at the end of this page.
DELL:
- Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810
- Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 710M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 9400, E1505, E1705
- Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90
- XPS: XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, XPS M1710
DELL already went through a recall process earlier this year. However, they have now widened the recall and you must check your battery again even if you already did so earlier in the year.
IBM/Lenovo:
- ThinkPad R51e, R52, R60, R60e
- ThinkPad T43, T43p, T60
- ThinkPad X60, X60s
Toshiba:
- Satellite A100, A110, M50, M70, M100
- Satellite Pro A100, A110, M50, M70
- Equium A100, A110, M50, M70
- Tecra A6, A7
Apple::
- 12-inch iBook G4
- 12-inch PowerBook G4
- 15-inch PowerBook G4
Recall Procedures:
First remove the battery from the laptop and find the serial number. Then go to the relevant manufacturers recall web site and follow the instructions.

IBM/Lenovo offers both an automated solution and a manual one. We recommend that you use the manual solution which tends to work out faster.
Toshiba:
Toshiba offers both an automated and a "visual" solution. We recommend that you use the "visual" solution.
