Abstract Submission

Abstract submission deadline - 15th December 2009

Abstract submission for the 21st ISSTT is now open. You must submit your abstract as a PDF file using our specified format as an attachment emailed to the address below. Template files are available below in a number of common formats.

Send your PDF abstract to isstt2010-abstracts@physics.ox.ac.uk

Please include the following in your email:

  • The list of authors
  • The name of the corresponding author (if not the first author)
  • The email address of the corresponding author
  • The title of the paper
  • Your preference for oral or poster presentation
  • The abstract as an attachment!

Please name your PDF file with the name of the lead author - e.g. "Authors_Name.pdf". If you are submitting more than one abstract, please add one or two words from the paper title.

You should receive an automatic reply (with the subject "Out of office autoreply") from the email account which confirms that your email has been received. Your email and abstract will then be checked for formatting within a few days and you will be notified when your abstract has been passed to the Scientific Committee for review. Final notification will be sent in mid January 2010.

Abstract Format

The abstract template files and example PDFs are available in the following formats:

You must submit your abstract using the headings, fonts and format described in the template file. You may include graphics, equations and references if desired, but the entire abstract must fit on a single page of A4 paper, with the margins specified in the template files. The abstract book for the conference is likely to be printed in black and white only, so any graphics must reproduce well in monochrome.

If you have any questions about the submission or format of your abstract, or if you need the template file in an alternative format, please contact Paul Grimes by email at p.grimes1@physics.ox.ac.uk

Microsoft Word 2003

This template file was produced in Microsoft Word 2003, but should also be compatible with later versions of Microsoft Office. The page is A4 portrait paper, with 1" (2.54mm) margins on all sides. All fonts are Times New Roman. The title text is 24 point and centred. The author list is 11 point text, centred with 16pt vertical space after the list. The author affiliations are 11 point text, centred with a single blank line between institutions. Please use superscript characters (asterisk, dagger, etc.) to associate authors with institutions.

The main abstract text is 9.5 point justified text with 0.5 cm indentation and an extra 0.5cm indent at the start of each paragraph. An additonal 1pt of space is left before each paragraph. The references if used are 8 point justified and numbered in the IEEE style (numbered references in square brackets.

OpenDocument

This template file was converted from the Microsoft Word 2003 template using OpenOffice.org 2.4, but should also be compatible with all 2.x and 3.x version of OpenOffice.org, as well as Star Office, Google Docs and other OpenDocument aware software.

An additonal 1 point of space is left before each paragraph. The references if used are 8 point justified and numbered in the IEEE style (numbered references in square brackets.

LaTeX

The latex template file uses the IEEEtran document class which should be available with most latex installations, and is downloadable from CTAN or the IEEE. It uses the a4paper, conference and onecolumn options to the IEEEtran class, as well as the geometry, babel and fontenc packages. The default font size is 11 point (set via the 11pt class option). Please make sure that you pass a4paper options to the various utilities (dvips, ps2pdf etc.) when compiling the abstract.

The author names and affiliations use a slightly different method than the IEEE Transactions standard method to get the author affiliations listed at the top of the page. This is documented in the template file. There is also some example code for including a bibtex reference list in the template file.

LyX 1.5

The lyx template file was written in lyx 1.5 using the IEEEtran template file, and uses the same latex package listed above for the latex template file. The author names and affiliations are included using the same raw latex commands as for the latex template file. This tempalte file should also work with later versions of lyx. Please export your abstract to PDF using the "export to PDF (ps2pdf)" method.
