I am a research Fellow at the National Centre for Earth Observation, working at the University of Oxford. I use satellite data tackle the lack of knowledge regarding thunderstorms and turbulence, helping airlines to fly more safely and more efficiently in the face of adverse weather. In late 2018 I started a company that provides live, global, weather information to airlines, air traffic control providers and other aeronautical stakeholders.
My research-based work is sponsored by the UK Industrial Strategy programme through a Natural Environment Research Council fellowship.
Main areas of expertise:
- Satellite data analysis, particularly with regard to extracting information about storm locations from satellite images on a near-live timescale.
- Meteorology, focusing upon severe convective storms
- Aviation, examining the influence of storms upon airline efficiency, safety and routing
- Sensor development, producing small, low cost, sensors for field and laboratory use
