Time-independent measurements of the CKM angle ?

Abstract:

A goal of the LHCb experiment is to measure the CKM angle with a precision of 1?. At this precision it is hoped that hints or indeed an observation of physics beyond the standard model could arise. In order to reach this precision it will be necessary to target a number of decays modes. Results from two analyses are presented here which make use of the entire Run1 and Run2 dataset collected at the LHCb experiment. One of them leads to a measurement of ? = (68.7+-5522)?, which is the most precise result from a single measurement.

Abstract:

Abstract A branching fraction measurement of the $${{B} ^0} {\rightarrow }{{D} ^+_{s}} {{\pi } ^-} $$ B 0 → D s + π - decay is presented using proton–proton collision data collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $$5.0\,\text {fb} ^{-1} $$ 5.0 fb - 1 . The branching fraction is found to be $${\mathcal {B}} ({{B} ^0} {\rightarrow }{{D} ^+_{s}} {{\pi } ^-} ) =(19.4 \pm $$ B ( B 0 → D s + π - ) = ( 19.4 ± $$1.8\pm 1.3 \pm 1.2)\times 10^{-6}$$ 1.8 ± 1.3 ± 1.2 ) × 10 - 6 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the uncertainty on the $${{B} ^0} {\rightarrow }{{D} ^-} {{\pi } ^+} $$ B 0 → D - π + , $${{D} ^+_{s}} {\rightarrow }{{K} ^+} {{K} ^-} {{\pi } ^+} $$ D s + → K + K - π + and $${{D} ^-} {\rightarrow }{{K} ^+} {{\pi } ^-} {{\pi } ^-} $$ D - → K + π - π - branching fractions. This is the most precise single measurement of this quantity to date. As this decay proceeds through a single amplitude involving a $$b{\rightarrow }u$$ b → u charged-current transition, the result provides information on non-factorisable strong interaction effects and the magnitude of the Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa matrix element $$V_{ub}$$ V ub . Additionally, the collision energy dependence of the hadronisation-fraction ratio $$f_s/f_d$$ f s / f d is measured through $${{\overline{B}} {}^0_{s}} {\rightarrow }{{D} ^+_{s}} {{\pi } ^-} $$ .

Search for the doubly heavy baryons $\itΩ_{bc}^{\rm0}$ and $\itΞ_{bc}^{\rm0}$ decaying to $\it{Λ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$ and $\it{Ξ_{c}^{+}π^{-}}$

Measurement of CP observables in B± → D(*)K± and B± → D(*)π± decays using two-body D final states

Abstract:

Measurements of CP observables in B± → D(*)K± and B± → D(*)π± decays are presented, where D(∗) indicates a neutral D or D∗ meson that is an admixture of meson and anti-meson states. Decays of the D(∗) meson to the Dπ0 and Dγ final states are partially reconstructed without inclusion of the neutral pion or photon. Decays of the D meson are reconstructed in the K±π∓, K+K−, and π+π− final states. The analysis uses a sample of charged B mesons produced in proton-proton collisions and collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 2.0, 1.0, and 5.7 fb−1 taken at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, respectively. The measurements of partially reconstructed B± → D(*)K± and B± → D(∗)π± with D → K∓π± decays are the first of their kind, and a first observation of the B± → (Dπ0)D∗π±(Dπ0)D∗π± decay is made with a significance of 6.1 standard deviations. All CP observables are measured with world-best precision, and in combination with other LHCb results will provide strong constraints on the CKM angle γ
