Abstract:

A search is made for massive highly ionising particles with lifetimes in excess of 100 ns, with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, using 3.1 pb-1 of pp collision data taken at √s=7 TeV. The signature of energy loss in the ATLAS inner detector and electromagnetic calorimeter is used. No such particles are found and limits on the production cross section for electric charges 6e≤|q|≤17e and masses 200 GeV≤m≤1000 GeV are set in the range 1-12 pb for different hypotheses on the production mechanism. © 2011 CERN.

Abstract:

We reconstruct the rare decays B+→K+μ +μ-, B0→K*(892)0μ +μ-, and Bs0→(1020)μ+μ - in a data sample corresponding to 4.4fb-1 collected in pp̄ collisions at √s=1.96TeV by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron Collider. Using 121±16 B+→K+μ +μ- and 101±12 B0→K*0μ +μ- decays we report the branching ratios. In addition, we report the differential branching ratio and the muon forward-backward asymmetry in the B+ and B0 decay modes, and the K*0 longitudinal polarization fraction in the B0 decay mode with respect to the squared dimuon mass. These are consistent with the predictions, and most recent determinations from other experiments and of comparable accuracy. We also report the first observation of the Bs0→μ+μ- decay and measure its branching ratio BR(Bs0→μ+μ-)= [1.44±0.33±0.46]×10-6 using 27±6 signal events. This is currently the most rare Bs0 decay observed. © 2011 American Physical Society.

Abstract:

We present a direct measurement of the mass difference between t and t quarks using tt candidate events in the lepton+jets channel, collected with the CDF II detector at Fermilab's 1.96 TeV Tevatron pp Collider. We make an event by event estimate of the mass difference to construct templates for top quark pair signal events and background events. The resulting mass difference distribution of data is compared to templates of signals and background using a maximum likelihood fit. From a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.6  fb(-1), we measure a mass difference, ΔM(top) = M(t) - M(t) = -3.3 ± 1.4(stat) ± 1.0(syst)  GeV/c2, approximately 2 standard deviations away from the CPT hypothesis of zero mass difference.

Abstract:

A measurement of the top-quark pair-production cross section in pp̄ collisions at √s=1.96TeV using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.12fb-1 collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab is presented. Decays of top-quark pairs into the final states eν+ jets and μν+ jets are selected, and the cross section and the b-jet identification efficiency are determined using a new measurement technique which requires agreement between the measured cross sections with exactly one and with multiple identified b quarks from the top-quark decays. Assuming a top-quark mass of 175GeV/c2, a cross section of 8.5±0.6(stat)±0. 7(syst)pb is measured. © 2011 American Physical Society.
