Dark Matter Detection Beyond WIMPs

Dark matter makes up most of the mass in the universe, yet its nature is unknown. This talk will describe dark matter direct detection in experiments searching for interactions of dark matter candidate particles in ultra-sensitive terrestrial detectors, with an emphasis on recent results in searches for dark matter candidates beyond the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) paradigm.  I will discuss the development of novel technology to search for dark matter in the DarkSide experiment programme, the complementarity of dark matter search approaches, and prospects for discovery.
