Abstract

Every serious trip takes twenty years. The NEXT experiment sailed from the Harbours of Dreams about 15 years ago. In our journey we passed the Island of Prototypes, the Land of The First Radiopure Detector, and are currently anchoring in the NEXT-100 beaches. Our journey, however, is far from completed. In this talk I will share what we have accomplished so far and what we hope to achieve in our way (back) to ITACA (Ion Tracking with CMOS ASICs), a new experimental concept that make us allow exploring a putative neutrinoless double beta decay process in Xenon up to lifetimes of 10^28 years and beyond.
