Elisa Chisari - Intrinsic sizes of galaxies: large-scale correlations and cosmological implications
Galaxy sizes are known to be correlated with other galactic properties. The fundamental plane of elliptical galaxies is one example of such correlation. Residuals in size correlations can serve as a cosmological probe, for example, of gravitational lensing. However, this information can only be extracted under the assumption that size residuals do not correlate with the large-scale structure. In this talk, I will present measurements of galaxy size residuals and their correlations with the large-scale structure from a cosmological hydrodynamical simulation, for both elliptical and spiral galaxies. I will discuss what our findings imply for the extraction of lensing information. This talk is based on arXiv:2209.11063.
