Oxford Particle Physics Masterclass (online): half-day event
This is an opportunity for students who missed our full-day International Masterclass in Particle Physics to join an on-line event. They will engage with Oxford researchers in a Zoom webinar to learn about our research at the Large Hadron Collider. Then look at real data from the LHCb experiment in an activity to study the D0 particle. We will examine the results in a panel discussion and answer student questions about our quest to explore the universe.
Applications
The International Masterclass in Particle Physics is open to students aged 16-17 years who are:
- In Year 12 (the first year of your A-level studies)
- Studying Physics AND Maths A-level (or equivalent)
- Interested in pursuing physics at a higher level
- Enthusiastic about particle physics
There are a limited number of applications available for this course. We may also cap applications from individual schools to five students to ensure we can open it up to more students who are particularly enthusiastic about particle physics.
Timetable:
10:00 Introductory lectures on particle physics, the LHCb experiment, and the activity
11:00 Break, on-line activity to examine LHCb data and measure the D0 particle lifetime
12:00 Panel discussion on results and Q&A
13:00 End
This event is interactive, and we encourage live participation for the best experience. However, for those unable to attend in real-time, the session will be recorded and made available for a limited time to all eligible people who register.
