Department of Physics
To round off 2025, the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, we’re excited to host a special event dedicated to quantum technologies at the Department of Physics, University of Oxford.
Join us for a day of hands-on activities and interactive sessions led by scientists working on cutting-edge quantum research. Students will have the opportunity to explore our state-of-the-art laboratories, engage with a careers panel featuring professionals from the local quantum industry, and ask questions about pathways into this rapidly growing field.
This event is designed to give students valuable insights into quantum science and its real-world applications.
Through engaging experiences, we aim to introduce the following key ideas:
- The quantum industry is expanding rapidly, offering exciting career opportunities that shape the future of technology and innovation.
- Quantum phenomena—such as the wave-like behaviour of electrons, superposition, and entanglement—are central to these advancements.
- Quantum research is highly sensitive, requiring specialised labs to minimise noise and achieve accurate results.
Why quantum technology?
A career in the quantum industry offers students the chance to combine science and technology to drive groundbreaking innovation. From developing powerful new computers to enhancing secure communications and solving previously unsolvable problems, quantum technologies are transforming the world.
If your students enjoy maths, physics, and computing, the quantum industry provides a unique opportunity to be part of cutting-edge developments and make a meaningful impact.
Who is this event for?
This event is for Year 10 students with a passion for physics. We invite schools to bring a group of 12–15 students.
As part of our commitment to address underrepresentation in physics, we will prioritise schools that can bring a group with at least 50% girls, have a high proportion of students eligible for free school meals, or are facing other circumstances where students would particularly benefit from attending.
If your school has specific circumstances you'd like us to consider, please include details in the booking form.
