Guest speaker: Dr Farrah Simpson

Farrah Simpson is a Dicke fellow and postdoctoral scholar at Princeton University, conducting research in high-energy experimental physics. She conducts research with the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. She works with the Princeton CMS group to search for Beyond Standard Model physics and to enhance the sensitivity of searches for Long-Lived Particles through machine learning techniques. She is also involved in the upgrades of the CMS detector’s Outer Tracker as part of the High Luminosity LHC upgrade. 

Before joining Princeton, she received her Ph.D. from Brown University. Farrah hails from Jamaica and moved to the United States to pursue an undergraduate degree in applied physics at Columbia University. Farrah is deeply committed to teaching, mentoring, and advocating for historically underrepresented groups in STEM. She served as the Student Representative on the Executive Board of the National Society of Black Physicists and currently serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of US CMS, as well as the American Institute of Physics TEAM-UP Together Committee

The talk will be followed by a reception, to give an opportunity for guests to talk to our guest speaker Dr Simpson and other members of the department.
