Silicon tracking detectors in ATLAS, a short history and look to the future

I'll be talking through the past and current use of silicon tracking detectors, pulling particularly from my experience in ATLAS, and painting a picture where we are, and where I think we should be going, with future detector developments. While not instructive on the details of any particular silicon features, I hope to give a broad picture of what I think matters for a good detector, and where we, as a community, should invest our time.
