Abstract

Particle detectors are an invaluable tool in the particle physics world.  Vertex tracking is arguably one of the most important elements of these detectors, and silicon has been the base material of choice for vertexing in many detectors. These silicon vertex trackers have to put up with a lot, and there are a lot of sensor options.  What helps us to pick the best sensor for a given detector environment?  We will look at some of the choices and preferences made for the ePIC detector as part of the EIC project, along with challenges that may still be faced (beyond the sensor selection).
