Marking 150 years of first Clarendon Laboratory

On 7 December current and emeritus staff, including Bill Hayes who first came to Oxford 67 years ago, marked the 150th anniversary of the completion of the first Clarendon Laboratory in 1872. The event, held in the Lindemann Theatre, also saw the publication on the Department of Physics website of a previously unpublished history of the building, Oxford's Clarendon Laboratory, written in 1986 by AJ Croft, a former cryogenic engineer and the Clarendon Lab's administrator for some 40 years.

Professor Stephen Blundell introduced the occasion that included a talk on the history of the Old and New Clarendon Laboratories from alumnus Timothy Baker; emeriti Mike Wells spoke on his reminiscences of AJ Croft.
