The eruption of submarine volcano Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai on 15 January 2022 created waves that reverberated around the earth and reached 100km into the ionosphere. The eruption was one of the most explosive volcanic events of the modern era, a new study published today in Nature has confirmed.
