Professor Michael Johnston has been given the International Society of Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz) Kenneth J Button Award 2027. The award recognises his work in the development of THz nanodevices and non-contact THz probes of nanoscale semiconductors.

The Kenneth J Button Prize is awarded annually at the International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter and Terahertz Waves in recognition of outstanding contributions to the science of infrared, millimeter, and terahertz waves. The prize is named after the founder of the Conference Series and is administered by the Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Society.

‘I am very proud to be recognised by a society that brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines to advance infrared, millimetre and terahertz science,’ comments Professor Johnston. ‘This is an exciting time to be developing terahertz tools to uncover the physics of charge dynamics in nanoscale semiconductors and to use that understanding to guide the development of new semiconductor devices.’
