Our Galaxy: close encounters in turbulent times
The Hintze lectures highlight contemporary developments in astrophysics and cosmology and are generously funded by the Hintze Family Charitable Foundation.
Professor Katherine Blundell OBE, University of Oxford Professor of Astrophysics and Gresham Professor of Astronomy will present the 23rd Hintze Lecture, entitled “Our Galaxy: close encounters in turbulent times”. Her lecture will explore explosive and dynamical phenomena in our Galaxy, the Milky Way.
Abstract: Our Galaxy is a dynamic place, teeming with interactions, close encounters and explosions. This lecture will describe how transient signals of these activities may be detected, measured and understood -- and how remarkable structures have emerged from turbulent times.
Please note that regrettably, our planned speaker Professor Catherine Heymans, University of Edinburgh, has had to cancel her visit. We hope to reschedule Professor Heymans lecture in the future. We are most thankful for Professor Katherine Blundell for stepping in.
This event is free both online and in person. If you would like to attend online, registration is required.
Registration is not required if you would like to attend in person.
