A presentation by Bishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in dialogue with Alister McGrath, Andreas Idreos Chair of Science and Religion, University of Oxford with an introduction by Ian Shipsey, Head of Physics and Henry Moseley Centenary Professor of Experimental Physics, University of Oxford and a message of welcome from Maria Beer, Oxford DPhil Student, University of Montevideo.
On Christmas Day 2021, following the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson quoted from Psalm 19, “The heavens proclaim the glory of God.” But in what sense, if any, can this claim be made today? Do the heavens point to their Creator, or to nothing but an immense and ultimately meaningless void? What are the prospects of the religious and scientific impulses of humanity being in conflict or constructive engagement in the 21st century? Explore these and other big questions. EVERYBODY is welcome to join this event, regardless of religious or scientific knowledge.
This event is organised by Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion, in collaboration with the Department of Physics and the Catholic Chaplaincy, University of Oxford.
