Abstract:

The Extreme Photonics Applications Centre (EPAC) is a new £100M facility under construction at the Harwell Campus. EPAC aims to exploit the applications of laser-driven plasma accelerators in a variety of fields – from industry to fundamental science. At the heart of EPAC is a 10Hz Petawatt laser driven by the indigenously developed diode pumping technology – DiPOLE. EPAC is currently in its installation phase; the commissioning phase is expected to be in 2025-26 and we expect to start operations in EPAC in 2026. I will describe the design principles of EPAC and provide an update on the progress of the project.
