Title: Looking for strings in SYK
Abstract: A breakthrough result in many-body quantum chaos was the analytic demonstration of scrambling in the infinite coupling (equivalently, the low temperature) limit of the SYK model. In this limit the ``bound on chaos’’ is saturated, and SYK has a dual description as a two-dimensional quantum gravity theory. Backing away from the infinite coupling limit is expected to reveal the string theory degrees of freedom in gravity. I will describe recent results in the finite coupling SYK model that reveal stringy effects: scrambling away from maximal chaos and transport beyond hydrodynamics.
