Abstract

Giorgio Parisi won the Nobel Prize in Physics this year for his work on complexity in frustrated many-body systems, starting with his brilliant solution of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model.

David will recount some of the intellectual history of that period and his own role in these developments. He will also discuss lessons this history teaches us regarding virtues of theoretical physics mindsets and methodology.
