Knowledge of physics?
No, knowledge of physics not required

Join Oxford Astronomers for a celebration of the first images from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, a revolutionary new telescope which will produce a movie of the sky. The Observatory’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time will revolutionise cosmology, discover transient phenomena such as supernovae, find a few million asteroids and produce gorgeous images of galaxies and more.

The first images from this exciting facility will be released on Monday 23rd June, and from 6pm - 7pm - just an hour or two after they’re unveiled - Chris Lintott and friends from the University’s Department of Physics will be explaining the science behind this marvellous new survey, talking about what they’re looking forward to, and how you can get involved. This event is the culmination of more than a decade of work, with important parts of the camera design, science planning and data processing carried out in Oxford.

Do join us for this unique event.
