New event!

We are excited to announce this new event dedicated to how physics helps tackle environmental challenges, hosted by the Department of Physics, University of Oxford. Join us for a day of hands-on activities and interactive sessions led by scientists working on cutting-edge research in solar energy and climate modeling. You'll also get the chance to explore our state-of-the-art labs and ask your questions to a panel of researchers. The day will provide valuable insights for students interested in the role of physics in shaping a sustainable future.

Why physics and the environment?

Physics is key to understanding and solving environmental challenges. From designing more efficient solar cells to improving climate models that predict our planet’s future, physics helps us develop the tools and technologies needed for a more sustainable world.

At this event, you will explore:

The physics behind solar cells: Learn how scientists are improving solar panels to harness the Sun’s energy more efficiently and power the future with renewable energy.

How physics helps predict climate change: Discover how researchers use physics, supercomputers, and satellite data to model Earth’s climate and understand how our planet is changing.

The cutting-edge research shaping our future: Get hands-on with experiments and demonstrations that reveal the physics behind energy and climate solutions.

Who is this event for?

This event is for Year 10 students with a passion for physics and the environment. Schools are invited to bring a group of 12-15 students.

As a positive action to address underrepresentation in physics, we will prioritise schools that can bring a group with at least 50% girls and those with a high percentage of students on free school meals or other circumstances where students would particularly benefit from attending. If you would like us to consider your school’s specific circumstances, please provide details in the booking form.
