Exciting new fellowship opportunities for theoretical physicists

Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics

‘We are looking for the most talented early-career theoretical physicists worldwide to join us here at the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics in Oxford. Our Leverhulme-Peierls fellows will be given intellectual freedom to set their own research agenda while being supported by the Rudolf Peierls Centre as well as the wider Department of Physics.’

In conjunction with the appointment of Professor Shivaji Sondhi, Wykeham, Tencent and Leverhulme Professor of Physics, a total of six prestigious 3-year postdoctoral fellowships have been created at the Department of Physics, University of Oxford. The Leverhulme-Peierls fellows will receive active mentoring from members of the Department’s Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics and will be encouraged and supported to set their own independent research agenda. The fellows will also be associated with New College.

‘The new fellows will be joining a vibrant, innovative and world-leading research environment,’ confirms Head of Department, Professor Ian Shipsey. ‘We are one of the largest physics departments in the world with research interests as varied as string theory and photovoltaics The Rudolf Peierls Centre itself is based in our state-of-the-art Beecroft building that has been carefully designed to foster collaborative thinking – as well as accommodating some of the country’s most advanced ultra-low vibration laboratories. We work at the forefront of physics and our theoretical and experimental physicists collaborate closely to advance the frontier of physics. We are thrilled to be able to offer this unique opportunity and look forward to welcoming our Leverhulme-Peierls fellows to be part of our exciting future.’

We are grateful to the Leverhulme Trust for their award of a Leverhulme International Professorship which part-funds Professor Sondhi’s post and provides funding for the new prestigious fellowships.
