Professor Raymond Pierrehumbert FRS, has been awarded the European Geosciences Union Jean Dominique Cassini Medal, the EGU’s highest award for recognition of achievement in the planetary sciences. The medal recognises scientists who have achieved exceptional international standing in planetary and space sciences, defined in their widest senses, for their merit and their scientific achievements.
‘Throughout my career, I have endeavoured to employ fundamental principles of physics to the emergent phenomena underpinning the behaviour of planets and their atmospheres,’ comments Professor Pierrehumbert who holds the Halley Professorship of Physics. ‘It is gratifying to see this work recognised by the award of the Cassini Medal. I am indebted to the many postdocs and students I have worked with over the years, who have made these advances possible, and also of course to my valued colleagues at Oxford and elsewhere.’
