Cover of Jet Stream by Professor Tim WoollingsProfessor Tim Woollings has received the American Meteorological Society’s Louis J Battan Author’s Award (adult) for Jet Stream, a scientifically accurate account of large-scale atmospheric dynamics told from the perspective of a drifting weather balloon.

The Louis J. Battan Author's Award, Adult, is presented to the author(s) of an outstanding book on the atmospheric and related sciences of a technical or non-technical nature published within the last three years, with consideration to those books that foster public understanding of meteorology in adult audiences.

‘Weather forecasters talk about the jet stream all the time now, so I wanted to take some of the physics underlying it to a broader audience,’ explains Professor Woollings. ‘I learnt a lot myself while writing the book, about how the jet has impacted communities around the world, and it has been great sharing these stories. I am honoured to receive this award from the AMS and delighted that they liked the book.’
