Abstract:

A search for grand unified theory magnetic monopoles making highly ionizing tracks in argon gas has been conducted using the Soudan 2 nucleon decay detector. This underground detector is a large fine-grained tracking calorimeter comprised of long drift tubes read out by proportional wires. No monopole candidates were observed in data taken over almost three years, yielding an upper flux limit of 8.7 × 10-15 cm-2s-1sr-1 for monopole velocities of >2×10-3. © 1992 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

Muons recorded in the Soudan 2 underground nucleon decay detector from January 1989 to February 1991 have been examined for any correlation with the radio flares of Cygnus X-3 observed during this period. On two nearby days during the radio flare of January 1991 a total of 32 muons within 2.0° of the Cygnus X-3 direction were observed when 11.4 were expected. © 1991.

Observation of the decay KLO→ e+e-ep+e-

Physics Letters B 259:3 (1991) 389-392

Authors:

GD Barr, R Carosi, D Coward, D Cundy, N Doble, L Gatignon, V Gibson, G Grafström, R Hagelberg, J van der Lans, HN Nelson, H Wahl, DJ Candlin, KJ Peach, H Blümer, R Heinz, K Kleinknecht, P Mayer, B Panzer, B Renk, H Rohrer, A Wagner, E Augé, D Fournier, P Heusse, L Iconomidou-Fayard, I Harrus, O Perdereau, AC Schaffer, L Serin, L Bertanza, A Bigi, P Calafiura, M Calvetti, R Casali, C Cerri, R Fantachi, I Mannelli, A Nappi, GM Pierazzini, M Holder, A Kreutz, G Quast, M Rost, HG Sander, R Werthenbach, G Zech

Abstract:

Two events with the characteristic of the decay KLO→e+e-e- have been observed with a negligible expected background from which a branching ratio of (4±3)×10-8 is derived. This result is consistent with values estimated from theoretical models based on the double internal conventional of the decay KLO→γγ. © 1991.
