I am Head of IT in the Department of Physics, leading a team of around 18 IT professionals who provide the technology, infrastructure and support that underpin the Department’s research, teaching and wider activities.
I have worked in IT throughout my career and have a broad interest in how technology can enable people to do their best work. Within Physics, this means ensuring that our researchers, academics, students and professional services colleagues have access to reliable, secure and effective IT services, while also looking ahead to the Department’s evolving technology needs.
My connection with the Department goes back much further than my professional role. While at school, I attended an outreach event here, an experience that helped reinforce a lifelong interest in physics and the sciences more broadly. It is particularly rewarding to now work in the same Department, supporting the research and teaching that continue to inspire future generations of scientists.
As Head of IT, my role combines leadership, strategy and service delivery. I work closely with colleagues across the Department and the wider University to develop our IT capabilities, support a diverse range of scientific and teaching requirements, and lead a talented team delivering services across a complex and continually changing technology landscape.
As well as my role as Head of IT, I also work closely with the teaching faculty on undergraduate admissions and exams, developing custom tools for managing these processes.
