I am working in the Semiconductors Group under the supervision of Professor Laura Herz.
My research focuses on photoexcited carrier dynamics in novel metal-halide semiconductors. These new materials have excellent optoelectronic properties (e.g., high absorption coefficients, long and balanced diffusion lengths), thus making them ideal candidates for solar cells. While in the past five years the field has been dominated by lead-halide perovskites, new metal-halides have recently emerged. These materials couple non-toxicity with promising performance, but further research is needed to achieve comparable results with their lead-based counterparts. Our characterisation provides unique insights into the photoconductivity of these new materials and therefore provides crucial feedback to the synthetists.
