Measurement of inclusive jet and dijet production in pp collisions at √s=7TeV using the ATLAS detector
Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology 86:1 (2012)
Abstract:
Inclusive jet and dijet cross sections have been measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The cross sections were measured using jets clustered with the anti-kt algorithm with parameters R=0.4 and R=0.6. These measurements are based on the 2010 data sample, consisting of a total integrated luminosity of 37pb-1. Inclusive jet double-differential cross sections are presented as a function of jet transverse momentum, in bins of jet rapidity. Dijet double-differential cross sections are studied as a function of the dijet invariant mass, in bins of half the rapidity separation of the two leading jets. The measurements are performed in the jet rapidity range |y|<4.4, covering jet transverse momenta from 20 GeV to 1.5 TeV and dijet invariant masses from 70 GeV to 5 TeV. The data are compared to expectations based on next-to-leading-order QCD calculations corrected for nonperturbative effects, as well as to next-to-leading-order Monte Carlo predictions. In addition to a test of the theory in a new kinematic regime, the data also provide sensitivity to parton distribution functions in a region where they are currently not well-constrained. © 2012 CERN. European Physical Journal C 72:6 (2012)
Abstract:
This paper presents a search for the t-channel exchange of an R-parity violating scalar top quark (t) in the e±μ∓ continuum using 2.1 fb−1 of data collected by the ATLAS detector in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Data are found to be consistent with the expectation from the Standard Model backgrounds. Limits on R-parity-violating couplings at 95 % C.L. are calculated as a function of the scalar top mass (mt). The upper limits on the production cross section for pp→eμX, through the t-channel exchange of a scalar top quark, ranges from 170 fb for mt = 95 GeV to 30 fb for mt = 1000 GeV.Search for heavy vector-like quarks coupling to light quarks in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics 712:1-2 (2012) 22-39
Abstract:
This Letter presents a search for singly produced vector-like quarks, Q, coupling to light quarks, q. The search is sensitive to both charged current (CC) and neutral current (NC) processes, pp→Qq→Wqq' and pp→Qq→Zqq' with a leptonic decay of the vector gauge boson. In 1.04fb-1 of data taken in 2011 by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy √s=7 TeV, no evidence of such heavy vector-like quarks is observed above the expected Standard Model background. Limits on the heavy vector-like quark production cross section times branching ratio as a function of mass mQ are obtained. For a coupling κqQ=v/mQ, where v is the Higgs vacuum expectation value, 95% C.L. lower limits on the mass of a vector-like quark are set at 900 GeV and 760 GeV from CC and NC processes, respectively. © 2012 CERN.Measurement of the top quark pair production cross-section with ATLAS in the single lepton channel
