Precision top-quark mass measurement in the lepton+jets topology in pp̄ collisions at s=1.96TeV
Physical Review Letters 96:2 (2006)
Abstract:
We report two measurements of the top-quark mass Mtop using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in a 318pb-1 data sample of tt̄ events in the lepton+jets final state. One method uses an event-based likelihood technique resulting in Mtop=173.2-2.4+2.6(stat)±3.2(syst)GeV/c2 or 173.2-4.0+4.1GeV/c2. The second method reconstructs a top-quark mass in each event using the measured invariant mass of the hadronically decaying W boson to constrain the jet energy scale to obtain a value for Mtop of 173.5-3.6+3.7(stat)±1.3(syst)GeV/c2 or 173.5-3.8+3.9GeV/c2. We take the latter, which is more precise, as our result. © 2006 The American Physical Society.Search for neutral Higgs Bosons of the minimal supersymmetric standard model decaying to τ pairs in pp̄ collisions at s=1.96TeV

Abstract:
We present a search for neutral supersymmetric Higgs bosons decaying to τ pairs produced in pp̄ collisions at s=1.96TeV. The data, corresponding to 310pb-1 integrated luminosity, were collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab in runII of the Tevatron. No significant excess above the standard model backgrounds is observed. We set exclusion limits on the production cross section times branching fraction to τ pairs for Higgs boson masses in the range from 90 to 250GeV/c2. © 2006 The American Physical Society.Forward jet production in deep inelastic ep scattering and low-x parton dynamics at HERA

Abstract:
Differential inclusive jet cross sections in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering have been measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 38.7 pb-1. The jets have been identified using the kT cluster algorithm in the longitudinally invariant inclusive mode in the laboratory frame; they have been selected with jet transverse energy, ETjet above 6 GeV and jet pseudorapidity, ηjet, between -1 and 3. Measurements of cross sections as functions of ETjet, Björken x and the photon virtuality, Q2, are presented. Three phase-space regions have been selected in order to study parton dynamics from the most global to the most restrictive region of forward-going (close to the proton-beam direction) jets at low x, where the effects of BFKL evolution might be present. The measurements have been compared to the predictions of leading-logarithm parton-shower Monte Carlo models and fixed-order perturbative QCD calculations. In the forward region, O (αs1) QCD calculations underestimate the data up to an order of magnitude at low x. An improved description of the data in this region is obtained by including O (αs2) QCD corrections, which account for the lowest-order t̂-channel gluon-exchange diagrams, highlighting the importance of such terms in the parton dynamics at low x. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Journal of Physics G Institute of Physics 32:2 (2006) 221
Abstract:
The high precision and large kinematic coverage of the data from the HERA-I running period (1994-2000) have already allowed precise extractions of proton parton distribution functions. The HERA-II running program is now underway and is expected to provide a substantial increase in the luminosity collected at HERA. In this paper, a study is presented which investigates the potential impact of future data from HERA on the proton PDF uncertainties, within the currently planned running scenario. Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for inclusive jet cross sections at the LHC centre-of-mass energy are presented using the estimated PDFs. Finally, the effect of a possible future measurement of the longitudinal structure function, FL, on the gluon distribution is investigated.HERA and the LHC - A workshop on the implications of HERA for LHC physics: Proceedings - Part A
