Year 12 Physics Taster Mornings
These interactive mornings introduce you to astrophysics, getting you looking at galaxies and using real data to calculate the age of the universe. You also get your first introduction to physics at Oxford and to the problem solving skills you need to get you there.
Our online taster mornings take place in November and January. They two events are repeats of each other so you should not attend both events. They are open to all young people who are studying maths and physics and take place on zoom on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 12:45

Year 12 Physics Masterclasses
These longer Saturday events build from the taster mornings and give you a feel for undergraduate study through taster lectures on subject like quantum physics. You find out more about our course, meet people from a range of departments, develop your problem solving skills further and join an interactive interview skills session.
Our online masterclasses take place in March and May. They two events are repeats of each other so you should not attend both events. They are open to all young people who are studying maths and physics and take place on zoom on Saturdays from 10:00 to 15:00

Preparing for Oxford Physics
After the taster mornings and masterclasses finish for the year, we go big on what you need to know to get you from school physics to university physics! Between June and December of each year, we run a programme for potential applicants to Physics at Oxford University. The course provides high quality, relevant preparation material to all students regardless of their educational, socioeconomic or geographic background.
The course consists of a series of live, online webinars in June/ July and September/ October, with three summer assignments and a series of videos over the summer and an additional interview preparation webinar in early December.
We also offer a programme of additional support for young people who are currently under-represented in physics.

Adult Support Event
Each year in March, just as young people start to think about their university applications, we run a webinar for their adult supporters. Discover more about what it is like for young people to study physics at Oxford, the application process and how to support a young person as they explore their options and prepare for their next steps.

Particle physics masterclasses
Every March we also provide the opportunity for students to take part in an International Masterclass in Particle Physics. Students learn more about Particle Physics with Oxford researchers and gain insight into topics and methods of research relating to matter and forces. They will perform measurements on real data from the ATLAS experiment and participate in a video conference to discuss the results.
Students will have the opportunity to:
- Learn how we use particle detectors at the Large Hadron Collider to explore the Universe.
- Study the Z particle and identify its signature in data from the ATLAS experiment.
- Work with Oxford particle physicists and join other students in a video conference with CERN to present the results.
Other Events and Programmes
In late July each year, we run a summer school work experience programme for young people who are local to us (resident in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire) and are finishing year 12. Dates and applications are released in the Spring.
COMPOS is a programme of weekly tutorials and assignments ran by a dedicated team of tutors which you can join at the start of the academic year in Year 12. Young people who wish to sign up in year 13 must have been participants in Year 12.
UNIQ is a completely free programme for UK state school students with high academic potential in Year 12 (England & Wales), Year 13 (Northern Ireland) or S5 (Scotland). UNIQ prioritises students from underrepresented educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Oxford University host two university-wide open days in June/ July and one in September.
We also work with the team at Isaac Science and highly recommend their online problem solving events!
