Sarah Howes is a DPhil student working with Dr. Carly Howett. Her main area of study is analysing thermal surface measurements of icy moons. Currently, she is focusing on mapping thermal inertia and Bond albedo for the surfaces of Europa, Ganymede and Callisto in preparation for the arrival of Europa Clipper and Juice. Understanding the passive thermal properties of these moons will aid the search for endogenic surface anomalies, such as hotspots on Europa, that may indicate regions of geological activity. She has a background in astronomy and physics, with past research projects in exoplanet detection, atmospheric escape modeling, and cosmic ray interactions with comet dust environments.
