Dr Gerard Jimenez Machado

Dr Gerard J. Machado is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford, working with Professor Ian Walmsley in the Oxford Quantum Institute. His research focuses mainly on photonic quantum sensing and metrology, alongside advanced photodetection techniques, integrated photonics, and quantum computing. Dr Machado obtained his Master’s degree and a PhD in Photonics from the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), which included a research stay as a visiting doctoral student at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen. His doctoral research explored nonlinear interferometry techniques applied to sensing with undetected photons and foundational quantum mechanics, as well as the experimental development of nonlinear polarimetry to characterize and knot fractional-order topological structures using bicircular bichromatic light fields.
