New on-line NMR/ON nuclear magnetic dipole moments near Sn-132: II variation with proton and neutron number: shell model treatment of 'collective' effects

HYPERFINE INTERACT 121:1-4 (1999) 651-655

Authors:

GN White, NJ Stone, J Rikovska, S Ohya, TJ Giles, IS Towner, BA Brown, B Fogelberg, L Jacobsson, M Hjorth-Jensen

Abstract:

Recent on-line nuclear orientation measurements of odd-A nuclear magnetic dipole moments of odd-A Sb, Te and I isotopes by the method of NMR on oriented nuclei mean that we now have complete series of odd-A moments up to, and including, those closest to the double shell closure at Sn-132. In this paper we consider the systematic changes in the measured moments as a function of proton number for the isotonic sequence Sb-133 [g(7/2+)](1) -La-139 [g(7/2+)](7) and as a function of neutron number for the isotopic sequences Sb125-133 and I127-135 and their interpretation using collective and shell model approaches.

beta-decay matrix elements from the study of asymmetric emission from polarised nuclei: gamma-tagging - a new method for complex beta-decay

HYPERFINE INTERACT 121:1-4 (1999) 667-671

Authors:

T Giles, DA Williams, NJ Stone, J Rikovska

Abstract:

A new method is introduced designed to facilitate study of matrix elements in complex beta-decay through the measurement of asymmetric beta-emission from a low-temperature polarised source. The method involves coincident detection of the beta-emission with subsequent gamma-transitions to tag the beta-spectrum component. The method is demonstrated by application to the decay of La-140.

Beta-decay matrix elements from the study of asymmetric emission from polarised nuclei: Gamma-tagging - A new method for complex beta-decay

(1998) 270-276

Abstract:

A new method is described designed to facilitate study of matrix elements in complex beta-decay through the measurement of asymmetric emission from a polarised source. It involves the coincident detection of the beta-emission with subsequent gamma-transitions to tag the beta-spectrum component. An account is given of a successful demonstration of the method applied to the decay of La-140.
