Please note that, as of November 2021, I have left Oxford and am now working for the European Space Agency at their ESTEC site in the Netherlands. I am still affiliated with the Dept of Physics as a Visitor.
I study the terrestrial worlds of our solar system: Venus, Mars, and Titan.
- I am now ESA's Project Scientist for two ESA Mars orbiters: ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter and Mars Express.
- I have developed instrumentation for Mars landers for atmospheric science. In a collaboration between Oxford University's Engineering Science and Physics departments, I designed, calibrated and supplied wind sensors for the 2003 Beagle 2 and 2016 ExoMars Schiaparelli Mars landers.
- I have developed mission concepts for future planetary exploration, in particular Venus mission proposals including the EnVision Venus Orbiter.
- I was Science Operations Co-ordinator for ESA's Venus Express satellite.
- I used Venus Express data to study cloud properties, winds and radiative balance on Venus.
- I developed a wind sensor for the Titan Dragonfly mission, together with the Johns Hopkins University / Applied Physics Lab.
- I have been a member of the teaching faculty of the Department of Physics since 2013; in this capacity I have supervised undergraduate projects and have co-supervised several PhD students.
