Study of the inclusive production of charged pions, kaons, and protons in pp collisions at √s = 0.9,2.76 and 7 TeV
European Physical Journal C 72:10 (2012) 1-37
Abstract:
Spectra of identified charged hadrons are measured in pp collisions at the LHC for √s = 0.9,2.76, and 7 TeV. Charged pions, kaons, and protons in the transverse-momentum range pT≈0. 1-1. 7 GeV/c and for rapidities {pipe}y{pipe}<1 are identified via their energy loss in the CMS silicon tracker. The average pT increases rapidly with the mass of the hadron and the event charged-particle multiplicity, independently of the center-of-mass energy. The fully corrected pT spectra and integrated yields are compared to various tunes of the Pythia 6 and Pythia 8 event generators. © 2012 CERN for the benefit of the CMS collaboration.Measurement of the t-channel single top-quark production cross section in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics 717:4-5 (2012) 330-350
Abstract:
We report a measurement of the cross section of single top-quark production in the t-channel using 1.04 fb-1 of pp collision data at s=7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Selected events feature one electron or muon, missing transverse momentum, and two or three jets, exactly one of them identified as originating from a b quark. The cross section is measured by fitting the distribution of a multivariate discriminant constructed with a neural network, yielding σt=83±4(stat.)-19 +20(syst.) pb, which is in good agreement with the prediction of the Standard Model. Using the ratio of the measured to the theoretically predicted cross section and assuming that the top-quark-related CKM matrix elements obey the relation |Vtb|≫|Vts|, |Vtd|, the coupling strength at the W-t-b vertex is determined to be |Vtb|=1.13-0.13 +0.14. If it is assumed that |Vtb|≤1 a lower limit of |Vtb|>0.75 is obtained at the 95% confidence level. © 2012 CERN.Novel inclusive search for the Higgs boson in the four-lepton final state at CDF
