Abstract:

We report on a measurement of the fraction of events with a W or Z boson which are produced diffractively in p̄p collisions at √s=1.96TeV, using data from 0.6fb⊃-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the CDFII detector equipped with a Roman-pot spectrometer that detects the p̄ from p̄+p→p̄+[X+W/Z]. We find that (1.00±0.11)% of Ws and (0.88±0.22)% of Zs are produced diffractively in a region of antiproton or proton fractional momentum loss ξ of 0.03<ξ<0.10 and 4-momentum transferred squared t of -1

Abstract:

We describe a method that uses a modified pepper-pot design to measure in a single shot the emittance of electron beams with energies above 100 MeV. Our setup consists of several thin layers of tantalum with spacers in between to leave slits through which the electron beam can be sampled. We report on a measurement done using this method at the DAFNE BTF with a 508 MeV electron beam.

Abstract:

A laser-wire transverse electron beam size measurement system has been constructed and operated at the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) extraction line at KEK. The construction of the system is described in detail along with the environment of the ATF related to the laser wire. A special set of electron beam optics was developed to generate an approximately 1μm vertical focus at the laser-wire location. The results of our operation at the ATF extraction line are presented, where a minimum rms electron beam size of 4.8±0.3μm was measured, and smaller electron beam sizes can be measured by developing the method further. The beam size at the laser-wire location was changed using quadrupoles and the resulting electron beam size measured, and vertical emittance extracted.© 2010 The American Physical Society.

Simulation of the alignment of linear accelerators

Proceedings of the 23rd Particle Accelerator Conference Joint Accelerator Conferences Website (JACoW) (2010) 3361-3363

Abstract:

The alignment of the next generation of linear accelerators will be much more critical than that of currently existing machines. This is especially true for very long machines with ultra-low emittance beams; such as the ILC and CLIC. The design and study of such machines will require a large number of simulations. However, full simulation of misalignment currently requires computer programs which are very resource intensive, and cannot simulate novel reference network measurement devices. A model which can be used to rapidly generate reference networks with the required statistical properties will be presented.
