We work with businesses of all sizes from local SMEs to large multinationals on projects across a range of physics technologies and business sectors. If you would like to find out more or discuss a project, contact Phillip Tait, Innovation and Enterprise Manager: phillip.tait@physics.ox.ac.uk
Collaborative research
These projects are ideal for a company who wishes to access extra funding for research while benefiting from our expertise. They are usually co-funded with a specified set of deliverables and outcomes for each consortium member. The added funding comes from a range of sources, including the European Union, Innovate UK and the Research Councils. This method of working is concerned with generating a collaborative research effort. These projects can be highly innovative as they bring together different approaches, generate new ideas and lead to results that benefit both the company and the university.
Contract research
Businesses can commission our researchers to carry out research for a specific project. Contract research is focused on industrial needs and the organisation commissioning the work sets out the requirements while the University is responsible for doing the research.
Spin-out investment
We have founded 15 new companies based on research and expertise, all of which are operating successfully (see a full list here). We welcome interest in supporting our next venture.
Consultancy
Consulting is one of the most important means by which staff at the University of Oxford can make available their academic knowledge and expertise to external organisations, including government, public sector bodies, community groups and businesses. Undergraduate and postgraduate projects
We embed innovation and entrepreneurship into our teaching and training programmes. Central to this is our focus on forging links with entrepreneurs and giving organisations the opportunity to offer projects to our bright, capable students. If your business would like to discuss a project for our students to work on, please get in touch.
Internships
We encourage our students to apply their physics skills outside of their studies and can advertise your company's internship programme or placements to our students.
