Beetle - a radiation hard readout chip for the LHCb experiment

NUCL INSTRUM METH A 518:1-2 (2004) 468-469

Abstract:

A new radiation hard pipelined readout chip is being developed for the LHCb-experiment. Appropriate design measures have been taken to ensure the radiation hardness against total ionising dose effects in excess of 45 Mrad, as well as radiation effects induced by single particles. Status and prospects of the LHCb experiment

NUCL PHYS B-PROC SUP 120 (2003) 305-310

Authors:

N Harnew, LHCb Collaboration

Abstract:

The LHCb detector and trigger have undergone significant revision. A summary is given of the re-optimized LHCb detector and the status of its construction. The measurement of the unitarity triangle angle gamma in a number of complimentary channels is also reviewed.

Performance of the beetle readout chip for LHCb

CERN REPORT 2002:3 (2002) 121-124

Authors:

N van Bakel, M van Beuzekom, E Jans, S Klous, H Verkooijen, D Baumeister, W Hofmann, KT Knopfle, S Lochner, M Schmelling, E Sexauer, M Feuerstack-Raible, U Trunk, N Harnew, N Smale

Abstract:

This paper presents the design and first measurements on the version 1.2 of the Beetle chip. The Beetle is a 128 channel pipelined readout chip which is intended for the silicon vertex detector, the inner tracker and the pile-up veto trigger of LHCb. In case of multianode photomultiplier tubes being used for the RICH readout, it is foreseen also to use the Beetle.Section II. gives a short overview of the chip architecture whereas section III. shows first measurements on the Beetle 1.2. In section IV. the results from a Total Ionizing Dose (TID) irradiation test is summarized, while an outlook on further tests given in section V.
