Abstract:

We searched for a sidereal modulation in the MINOS far detector neutrino rate. Such a signal would be a consequence of Lorentz and CPT violation as described by the standard-model extension framework. It also would be the first detection of a perturbative effect to conventional neutrino mass oscillations. We found no evidence for this sidereal signature, and the upper limits placed on the magnitudes of the Lorentz and CPT violating coefficients describing the theory are an improvement by factors of 20-510 over the current best limits found by using the MINOS near detector. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

We present results of a search for anomalous production of two photons together with an electron, muon, τ lepton, missing transverse energy, or jets using pp̄ collision data from 1.1-2.0fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). The event yields and kinematic distributions are examined for signs of new physics without favoring a specific model of new physics. The results are consistent with the standard model expectations. The search employs several new analysis techniques that significantly reduce instrumental backgrounds in channels with an electron and missing transverse energy. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

We present results of a signature-based search for new physics using a dijet plus missing transverse energy (E(T)) data sample collected in 2  fb⁻¹ of pp collisions at √s=1.96  TeV with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe no significant event excess with respect to the standard model prediction and extract a 95% C.L. upper limit on the cross section times acceptance for a potential contribution from a nonstandard model process. The search is made by using novel, data-driven techniques for estimating backgrounds that are applicable to first searches at the LHC.

Abstract:

A measurement of the tt̄ production cross section in pp̄ collisions at √s=1.96TeV using events with two leptons, missing transverse energy, and jets is reported. The data were collected with the CDF II detector. The result in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity 2.8fb-1 is σtt̄=6.27±0.73(stat) ±0.63(syst)±0.39(lum)pb. for an assumed top mass of 175GeV/c2. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

This paper reports results from a search for νμ→ν e transitions by the MINOS experiment based on a 7×1020 protons-on-target exposure. Our observation of 54 candidate νe events in the far detector with a background of 49.1±7.0(stat)±2. 7(syst) events predicted by the measurements in the near detector requires 2 sin2(2θ13)sin2θ23<0. 12(0.20) at the 90% C.L. for the normal (inverted) mass hierarchy at δCP=0. The experiment sets the tightest limits to date on the value of θ13 for nearly all values of δCP for the normal neutrino mass hierarchy and maximal sin2(2θ 23). © 2010 The American Physical Society.
