Group meetings

We hold weekly group meetings which usually take the format of an "around table", where four people share a brief update of their progress over the last week or so. This helps us keep up to date with what everyone is working on, to facilitate idea sharing and collaborations within the group. It's also an opportunity to give and receive feedback, and share knowledge and tips. We also use our group meetings to hear longer format presentations from group members on their recent work, practice conference presentations, talk about interesting papers, etc.

After our group meetings we always head up to the coffee room for Group Coffee - a chance to continue interesting discussions or just get to know each other better

Supervision

Hannah meets with students in the group on a weekly basis, and postdocs in the group every one-to-two weeks, as desired. DPhil (=PhD) students in the group are also typically paired with a postdoctoral mentor. This is someone to talk to more informally, for example to ask for coding help or to get general research advice over a coffee. But everyone in the group is happy to help out - we all sit close together within AOPP, and doors are always open!

Work-life balance

It is important to rest from work during the week, and to make use of annual leave throughout the year. Without adequate rest, we all run the risk of burn out.

Hannah is very supportive of requests to work flexibly (from home several days per week, compressed hours, etc) and/or part-time to make balancing work with a personal life easier.

Hannah's regular hours are 7am-3pm during the working week. She often works from home on Mondays, and is involved in college teaching on Fridays.
