At the Beecroft Institute we cover a broad range of topics, from fundamental theory to data analysis. We have been at the forefront in our attempts to understand some of the big questions in cosmology: how did the Universe begin, what is the dark matter and what is the dark energy? In the process we have developed a world leading programme on cosmological and astrophysical tests of gravity. In parallel, we have pushed forward our ability to numerically model the complex physics which is at play in the formation of structure in the Universe, from stars to galaxies and clusters of galaxies. A key component of the research at the Beecroft institute has been our involvement and leadership in some of the leading cosmological surveys, from mapping the cosmic microwave background to galaxy and weak lensing surveys.
