To understand the complex physical processes involved in the formation of the large scale structure of the Universe, it is essential to resort to sophisticated computational methods that can span a vast range of length scales while, at the same time, are able to model and calculate highly non-linear processes that can happen on small scales. We have developed some of the most sophisticated tools in the field which have allowed us to, on end, produce realistic maps of the large scale structure of the Universe and, on the other end, disentangle some of the most complicated physical processes that affect the structure of individual galaxies.
