Measurement of inclusive π 0 production in hadronic Z 0 decays
Zeitschrift für Physik C: Particles and Fields 69:1 (1995) 561-573
Abstract:
An analysis is presented of inclusive π 0 production in Z 0 decays measured with the DELPHI detector. At low energies, π 0 decays are reconstructed by using pairs of converted photons and combinations of converted photons and photons reconstructed in the barrel electromagnetic calorimeter (HPC). At high energies (up to {Mathematical expression}) the excellent granularity of the HPC is exploited to search for two-photon substructures in single showers. The inclusive differential cross section is measured as a function of energy for qq and bb events. The number of π 0's per hadronic Z 0 event is N(π 0)/Z had 0 =9.2±0.2(stat)±1.0(syst) and for bb events the number of π 0's is N(π 0)/bb=10.1±0.4(stat)±1.1(syst). The ratio of the number of π 0's in bb events to hadronic Z 0 events is less affected by the systematic errors and is found to be 1.09±0.05±0.01. The measured π 0 cross sections are compared with the predictions of different parton shower models. For hadronic events, the peak position in the ξ p=ln(1/xp) distribution is ξ* p =3.90 -0.14 +0.24 . The average number of π 0's from the decay of primary B hadrons is found to be N(B→π 0 X)/B hadron=2.78±0.15(stat)±0.60(syst). © 1996 Springer-Verlag.Measurement of the diffractive structure function in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Abstract:
This paper presents an analysis of the inclusive properties of diffractive deep inelastic scattering events produced in ep interactions at HERA. The events are characterised by a rapidity gap between the outgoing proton system and the remaining hadronic system. Inclusive distributions are presented and compared with Monte Carlo models for diffractive processes. The data are consistent with models where the pomeron structure function has a hard and a soft contribution. The diffractive structure function is measured as a function of xℙ, the momentum fraction lost by the proton, of β, the momentum fraction of the struck quark with respect to xℙ, and of Q2 in the range 6.3·10-4Measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry of e+e-→Z→ {Mathematical expression} using prompt leptons and a lifetime tag

Abstract:
The forward-backward asymmetry of the process e+e-→Z→b {Mathematical expression} has been measured using events collected by the DELPHI experiment during the 1991 and 1992 LEP runs. This data sample corresponded to 884 000 hadronic Z decays at a centre-of-mass energy {Mathematical expression}. The tagging of b-quark events was performed using two approaches; the first was based on the semileptonic decay channels b→X+μ and b→X+e, the second used a lifetime tag with jet-charge reconstruction. The results of these two methods were combined to give {Mathematical expression} With the semileptonic sample, the forward-backward asymmetry of the process e+e-→Z→ {Mathematical expression} was also measured to be {Mathematical expression} The effective value of the Weinberg mixing angle derived from these measurements was {Mathematical expression} © 1995 Springer-Verlag.Measurement of the proton structure function F 2 at low x and low Q 2 at HERA

Abstract:
We report on a measurement of the proton structure function F 2 in the range 3.5×10-5≤x≤4×10-3 and 1.5 GeV2≤Q 2≤15GeV2 at the ep collider HERA operating at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=300GeV. The rise of F 2 with decreasing x observed in the previous HERA measurements persists in this lower x and Q 2 range. The Q 2 evolution of F 2, even at the lowest Q 2 and x measured, is consistent with perturbative QCD. © 1996 Springer-Verlag.Measurement of the {Mathematical expression} branching ratio of the z by double hemisphere tagging
